Hi there,

I have a slight dilemma and wondering if anyone of you guys have experience with both amps.

I'm playing on a Swart Atomic Junior head with matching cab filled with an Alnico Gold and absolutely love this amp+cab configuration. Only downside is it's just enough for band practice but I fear I don't have enough oomph for the gigs where the amps are not mic'd over a PA. I could go for the AST MkII but this head is 2000,- and that isn't even close to my budget.

Recently I saw Supro released a new version of their Blues King, the Delta King 12. Looks like a nice amp for a reasonable price. What would this amp be like in comparison with my Swart Atomic Junior and cab?

Cheers,
Michiel

I have no idea as to the specific amps you mention.

I only have some cranky rantish advice to offer. Sorry.

IMO people should practice with the gear they are going to gig with, especially guitarists. Reasons should be obvious.

No specific advice :-(

I won't disagree but I will note that it is not always possible.

For example, I have a distinct preference for my small rig but it is not always going to work if the venue encourages the drummer to be louder than they were in rehearsal or if there is is no amplification for the bass except what I bring. And there are those times where the guitarist refuses to turn down and the only way to be heard is to escalate the volume wars :)

My preference for the small rig could easily be overcome if I still had the strength, stamina and automobile to handle 1x15 speaker cabinets weighing in at 50lbs each by myself.

It's not so much an issue with bass as with guitar. Especially when you add some effects into the mix. If a player really knows his gear a practice setup is ok. Effects effect different amps differently at different levels. Therein lies most of the issues I have with it.

Sadly, I don’t think you’ll get much help here. I’d bet a post on TheGearPage would get some useful replies, though. Huge user base with a wide range of experience especially in the amp forums.

Good luck!

Isn't that Supro a single ended 1 × 6L6 amp too? I don't think that would have any more oomph than the rig you have, and Swart's build quality is significantly higher

Hello

I did quick search for both amps - 5W vs 15W - plus bigger speaker. Theoretically that would give you about 4-5dB more output - depending on speaker sensitivities up to 6dB. That may or may not be loud enough. But if you use both amps together you might get another 2dB output.

That comes close to perceiving them sounding twice as loud. 3dB - which is twice the SPL - is hardly noticeable.

OR - you might concider getting a 2x12 extension cabinet with sensitive speakers - 4 or 8 ohm allowed.
