This listing just posted on Reverb. Cool old Slim Jim, but the sunburst seems pretty ‘severe’ - doesn’t look Guild-like to me. Obviously old, but do you think the sunburst is original?

The colors look right, the proportions look wrong. Maybe it was the new painters first day on the job and he used a little too much black!

Here's what it looked like two years later when he got it down.

Yep, the proportions are certainly off. My T-100 is a '66 and the M-65 is a '64 and they are pretty similar. (quick pic)

Grot, I wonder if the M-65 burst "template", if that's what is used to spray a burst?, was used on the larger T-100 body would you get a similar result?

Hey! Thats my guitar and my posting! Never really thought anything was wrong with the sunburst before. Cant imagine it was ever re-finished, no real signs that it ever was - but obviously I can't say for sure.

As a reference - here's a 1960 T100 with almost no black on the bottom - https://reverb.com/item/55571589-guild-t-100-slim-jim-sunburst?show_sold=true

This '66 is pretty heavy on the black - https://reverb.com/item/62543758-vi...ow-body-electric-guitar-w-ohsc?show_sold=true

Unfortunately I just dont play it as much as I thought and hate having it sitting around collecting dust.

If anyones interested let me know (*if thats not allowed - please tell me, and Ill remove this)

Good morning! I’m the OP about your guitar, and just wanted to clarify that I have no doubts about the integrity of your listing..!
I love guitars like this, worn-in and with musical stories within as well. I also love Guilds’ quirky history and eccentricities. That’s why I brought it up. And the responses (as always) have been very interesting.
Believe me, If I had the funds presently to pursue your guitar, we’d be in touch! Alas, I gotta sit on the sidelines, but wish you well!

Here's a late '62 T-100 DP with original sunburst on the left, and a '61 CE-100 DP on the right.

Even though the '62 T-100 is is a couple years older, the sunburst is original and resembles the one in question.
I think it's a variation in sunburst spraying technique/ability from back in the day.

Sats - I didnt think you were questioning it - actually you raised a cool question about the major differences in the hand spraying of these older Guilds. To see some that were so heavy and some that were so light - it's almost like a signature.

Im sure there was some foreman or supervisor on the production line that HATED whoever was going too heavy or too light and gave them hell. Maybe it was their first week or so being allowed to hand spray on their own and they got better over time. Maybe they just sucked and were fired the next week. Something we'll never know - but it adds a neat backstory.
