I just got a 76 D25M spruce top mahogany and would like to know what are the best strings and gauge to use? I like a warm deep tone. Not to crisp but very deep bass sounding. Any help?? Thanks.

I don't have a D25M but I like Martin Retro Monels on my spruce/mahogany guitar.
Curt Mangan does round-core Monels that are also great and John Pearse Pure Nickels are worth trying too.
All my guitars are happy with .012 Lights.

+1 on the monels, especially on a mahogany body guitar. Also, Thomastik-Infeld Plectrum Bronze are a good, warm sounding string, but expensive.

light or medium gauge, D'Addario phosphor bronze. so the EJ 16 or 17, depending. give the 80/20s a try too as they are brighter but mellow up in a week or so and age well. but PBs are warmer.

Thoughts on DRs? I just set up some rares on my Oxnard d40e and it’s working well so far!

they hurt my finger pads. just think they are way too stiff. but again, strings so subjective.

i have a flatback D25

i use Darco nickel heavy electric, with the B string(16) in the E string spot and the B string replaced with an 18.
i thereby end up with a 16-56 set
i use these strings on all guitars, regardless of type or scale length.

I always get a bad time about it but I use Rotosound Super Bronze .011-.052. Don't know why people frown on Rotosound. One of the few companies who actually make their strings, not just print their name on the package. And why would you pay 6.49 for Martin 80/20. When you could get DARCO 80/20 for 4.49.

Elixer Nano-Web Phos-Bronze Lights 12-53's on my GF-55, 10-47 12- string set on my F-412. They will last 6 months with regular playing.

Elixirs in my experience sound brand new until I get sick of them, like 15 months later. Which is why I use them on my Gibson guitars :)

Yep. I play my Elixers until the Goretex winding stuff starts unraveling around the sound hole. That is also about the time they get flat spots where they go over the frets. They still sound good, but the tuning and intonation gets a bit wonky........
