What brand/gauge would you recommend? I currently have Dadarrio EJ16 (If I remember right....could be EJ26), and the top end is a little "anemic" while the low end seems a little flat/dull to my ears. Plus, some tuning issues with the lighter strings. I'm eyeballing John Pearce 600L/200L (I know there's a lot of JP love here), some DR's (Veritas and Sunbeams), and maybe even Dean Markley Blue Steel 2036. Thanks in advance!

Try 'em all. That's part of the fun. But I'd slap some GHS Bright Bronze strings on it. The top won't be anemic and the bass is nice and full. They're non-coated. Not terribly expensive. I'd use light gauge strings. I think they came with medium gauge from the factory in that year, but that's a lot of strain on the neck. I use Elixirs and D'Addarios as well because they sound good and they last a long time (coated strings). Tons of choices......

Currently trying the JP PB. Sound is much better than previous strings, but (like I remember) the wound strings feel "rougher" than other brands to me. Trying the GHS Bright Bronze after these.

John Pearse are stiffer than D'Addario's, for sure.

If you go to lights, might be easier to play but it won't give you that thump in the chest I presume you get?

GHS Bright Bronze are really good, Guilds really like DR phosphor bronze strings, don't really like Monel/nickel-bronze type things.
My present NH D55 (previously had a 2007 Tacoma D55) uses the DR Veritas, long lasting and wonderful sounding.

not necessarily, as your D55 is from 2007 and thus the top is lighter built, so should move plenty fine with light gauge strings, .12-.53. the older built Guilds were more heavily build (for the most part) and thus do better with mediums.

11 or 12 days with the JPearce/light guage-good tone but rougher feel, tuning issues on the G and B, and wound strings kept catching at the nut. Installed the GHS bright bronze today-no catching or tuning issues so far, lighter tension, and good tone (maybe not quite as good as the JP, but not far off)
