Stringed theory, has anybody seen this before?

I read this over at AGF and found it really interesting how the sound waves chose different parts on the top.

Granite State luthier Al Carruth has studied Chladni patterns of existing guitars and used the data to inform the way he builds and braces new instruments.

A local guy I know who built mandolins and fiddles used a similar method with a tone generator and red sand on the top of the instrument.

This is really cool though - I'd like to see the visual patterns of a great sounding guitar vs. a cheapo, and it would be cool to see patterns on Guilds vs Martin vs Gibson vs Taylor, etc. too.

And of course, I'm sure everyone is waiting to see what pattern a Stradavarius produces!

Oh heck I used to see stuff like that all the time...when LSD was still legal... :lol:
