A local guy I know who built mandolins and fiddles used a similar method with a tone generator and red sand on the top of the instrument.

This is really cool though - I'd like to see the visual patterns of a great sounding guitar vs. a cheapo, and it would be cool to see patterns on Guilds vs Martin vs Gibson vs Taylor, etc. too.

And of course, I'm sure everyone is waiting to see what pattern a Stradavarius produces!

Oh heck I used to see stuff like that all the time...when LSD was still legal... :lol:
