interesting that the left handed electric guitar player was playing a right handed guitar without restringing it! I recently saw a left handed bass player playing with reverse-order strings, and I guess I assumed I would never see it again lol

Must be extremely difficult to achieve something like this. To get everybody there at same time would be the easy part .. But it is most likely not done in real-time because of huge latencies in data transmit.

Propably they had basic track with enough information that they all could play on top of that. Then the material was collected - arranged in sync and edited - that's the technical task of it. Both camera- and audio work are absolutely top class.

But the REAL WONDER of this - they're really groovy - swinging together as one huge organ.

And this brings back the question - how is our "My Back Pages - project" doing these days?

I have participated in several similar collaborations. The basic process is that a reference track is created, people listen to the reference track while recording their contributions and then the individual tracks are mixed to the final. Sometimes the audio and video are created separately and combined in the final. You can often detect this because the audio and video do not appear in synch.

The reference tracks may or may not be mixed into the final. I have had reference tracks that were just a click track or metronome, an instrument that was playing what I was supposed to sing and sometimes the accompaniment that was also going to be used in the final mix. Having "built" a performance by a handbell choir from individual recordings of one or two people playing simultaneously with two bells each, the overall process is pretty simple. The hard part is mixing and editing, not recording :)

Good eye! There are quite a few though:

I think most of these guys play that way because they learned it that way, in lack of a lefty guitar.

But - what about the REAL WONDER that I wrote about???

As sound technician i have no problem understanding how it is made technically - I'm in awe of how well all those people groove together.

I like the way he reached up and just touched each tone and volume knob, just to point out what he was doing.
I had a friend in high school. CRAZY guitar talent. At a gig one night, his guitar broke. Being left handed, that was a problem. But he just picked up a right handed guitar, flipped it without restringing, and finished the gig. I’ve kinda hated him ever since

Nuuska, now we're talking about a big, swinging huge organ and my mind goes to my being a "long standing member" and it made me LAUGH!!! But the truth is the WONDER of this is being able to share the music with no pun intended!! The part I love is being able to share this with my Black friends and we can champion freedom and power of Black owned businesses here in Vegas and anywhere they may happen. It's an historic event and it makes me smile!!

Thanks to Paul for posting in the first place and hope to envision a new and more amazing world!!!
