Just a nice day here with windows open and good humidity. Anyway, I'm starting to rotate through my guitars and I pulled out an interesting pair of my 12ers here.

I would say this is from the sublime to the ridulous(ly sublime). Please note that their presence in front of my fireplace in no way suggests that they are suitable for firewood. :) :D :D

oh, I forgot to mention that the F-212XL has stayed bright and shiny in its case most of the winter, but the D-20-12 was covered in the fine, white, powdery mildew that either comes from the case or whatever when I store it... I just wipe that off with a little soapy water, but the D-20-12 will get a little love soon with some proper polish and maybe new strings.

[pardon the typo above, folks... That's D-12-20 (not D-20-12). :) ]

I love 12-fretter six strings to death, but they are just average for me in a 12-string format.

What a pair! I broke out the F512 today after moving it (and six others) up to north Idaho two days ago. I had those along with what must have been a ton and a half, if not two tons of other stuff in the U Haul trailer. Literally. My back is killing me from unloading all that stuff! But I'm looking out over the lake now. Storm coming in....

The (outside) air has actually been really dry again so I put the axes back in their cases with the humdittifier doing its thing. Typical New England summer RH should start rolling in soon.

Not so much, Bill. But then I'm very slow when doing string changes. I kind of like the quality time. The real annoyance to me is that high G string on paddleheads which is prone to break. Not so much on the slotties. This reminds me that I'm going to give that D-12-20 some quality time next week with clean/polish. I haven't decided which strings I should use yet.

To your last question I haven't a clue. Steve Kaufman would say DR. If DR has their Veritas line in 12 string then I would agree. They are great on Guilds, not so much on Collings or H&D.

When I had my 512, I used D'Addario, as I could buy off the shelf local.

Only thing worse than restringing a 12 string is a mandolin! Like trying to restring an arch top 12 string with a Bigsby tail piece!:ROFLMAO::(

The guitar in the house that MOST NEEDS new strings is Don's Martin 12-string. And there it sits, and I won't touch it.... my sanity is too fragile these days to introduce a 12 string into the mix. Hell no!! Slot heads are fine, but no 12's......

Piece of cake! Just need a good electric winder (I use an Ernie Ball one) and need to keep the order from low E up to to D and from high E to G and you are all set. I follow the old Taylor tech sheet method for slot heads. Mind I have two 12 string slot heads and two 6 string slot head guitars...

Ralf, I got my winder but my mind is set for six strings. Take strings off, clean, polish (mostly just dry, I'm not a polisher but if anything needs special attention), condition fretboard and bridge (break time make a new cocktail and take a big sip), open up the strings and then buff the fretboard and bridge. Seat all strings either in pinless or with pins, and then measure, cut, wind and tune. Then stretch, and retune. Then one more little stretch, and a retune and I'm about at the end of my patience for tediousness. If you add six more strings (especially those little unwound ones that are so unruly!!) and then next thing you know my diet pill has worn off and there's blood everywhere because someone asked, "Whatchoo doing?" Okay? So it's Don's 12'er. Let him do it......

Good on you Ray. I keep mine rotating but my rotation is single digits--much more practical than most LTG members.
I don't rotate enough I get stuck on the one in hand .
I do have get to my F212 it is a wonderful guitar by far best 12 ever in my hands. 😁

And I find that for me, being cooped up from the effing virus is not going to help these kind of situations!
