Brian May together with Jukka-Pekka Metsävainio and David J Eicher have made a 3D-book of nebulae.

Very cool! The blurb for the book says:

Astronomy writer David Eicher skilfully narrates the story of the birth, death and recycling of stars in nebulae and the formation of the elements that made everything we know.

It blew my mind when (back in the 60s?) Carl Sagan in Cosmos said that all the heavier elements beyond hydrogen and helium were not forged at the beginning, but only much later in the life cycle of stars (via fusion), which eventually exploded as supernovae, spreading those elements around. Yeah, the big bang was very hot and dense, and helium was fused from the hydrogen, but since everything was rapidly expanding, it was also cooling, and there just wasn't enough time for further fusion before it cooled below fusion temperature. Interesting. Heard something about Brian May before and I know Eicher for his historical works :)
