I've been moving pretty slowly on my Starfire project since the weather has not been the best for spraying the finish outside. I picked up a small container of black paste filler and watered it down a bit before wiping it on. I think it did a pretty good job of leveling things out, but that will show up when I spray the sealer/sander on. I'm going to try to mix the sealer/sand coat (nitro) with a little bit of thinner and some black dye to see how it coats things. My guess is that most of the flaws in the wood (stains, residual black paint, open pores, etc.) will be masked by the nitro and dye. my next step is to mask off the binding and start the sealing coats. I assume the finish will not be as light and transparent as some of the Youtube videos, but it will be a bit more like what's pictured in Hans' book. I'll also spray the neck with the same mixture, but probably with fewer coats. I'm not kidding myself - this will not look "factory fresh" when I'm done because of the flaws on the veneers, but it should look decent enough. Thanks to all who have encouraged me and helped me out with my project. Here are a few pics of the filled body:

That should come out really well with a black transparent finish. I think it will blend in nicely. I am currently dealing with a similar issue on an older Guild that had been refinished. Very difficult once the old stain has gotten into the wood!
