I've seen many ugly houses and buildings to this age - but that there AC installation is downright disgustingly ugly.

I could install one in my house - the outside placement is on garden side under large window - and it could be camouflaged or sumpting. But the idea of having that big inside thingy in my nice living room is as appallant as putting a toilet seat on the wall . . .

There is a thin floor inside that window because of previous rearrangements in this house. Under the floor is space that would accommodate the inside unit. I could make a hole w grid in the floor to bring the air to living room - and servicing the inside unit downstairs would be easy. Unfortunately nobody can deliver such combo.

Are you saying you need an AC in Finland?

Last summer was exceptionally warm - our house faces south and two large windows are not shaded by trees. It got hot for few weeks. i got a big white canvas and tied it in a position that resembles the roof line. Touching the white wall outside in shadow and sunny spot - very noticable difference.

And those units work as heaters in wintertime - yelding max 3x the heat energy compared to the energy that drives them.

So they are technically slightly different - work both ways - inside out - outside in - but they look just the same with those ugly ducts on your beautifull plastered or stucco wall.

So to answer your question - for 3-10 weeks at summer we could use AC - and except for the coldest time of the year they are efficient heaters - like 6-8 months

Heh! I feel your pain, but with the humidity AND high temps, I'd die. I'm good with colder. Heat not so much. Which is strange considering where I live. And trust me, mold is hardly an issue here. We had to do a reinstall on the newer unit to get it finally working right. They opened everything up (roof mount) and checked the ducts. Clean as a whistle. Do you have to DE-humidify for your guitars??

Tom - if you're asking about de-humidifying - short answer - no - never.

Welp, it keeps getting better for 2022!

On the recommendation of one of the AC contractors, we called in a mold remediation company to test the wall cavity. The mold remediation company cut a few circular holes in the interior side of the walls on the first and second floors and found black mold on all the samples. Their take on the situation is as follows:

1. The condensate drain lines were run horizontally within the walls and run flat with no slope to drain and not sealed at the joints, causing an issue from day one.

2. Their recommendation is to remove both the interior and exterior wall finishes a minimum of 8'-0" wide by the entire height of the two stories and toss it into the trashbin. I know already that the existing exterior wall panels are embossed plywood panels that are no longer available. The HOA will have a cow with this one if I come in with something different from the remainder of the exterior wall finish. 🤪
