This is a very special NGD as it is a grail for me and was a long time coming. I actually got this a little while ago but just finished some work on the saddle, nut and frets to make it more to my liking, and only really started playing it this week.
It is John Kidder’s GV70 ( # 22) which I was going to buy from him about 1-1/2 years ago. However his travel schedule, then bad weather, Covid, and a layoff all got in the way. We finally got it done and she is in her new home with me. Thank you John!
What a fine guitar. Guild got this one right! The neck width is on the slightly narrow side for me but manageable. However, there is something about the neck and ebony fretboard that just makes it very easy to play. It is a very responsive guitar to the touch, with balance, good sustain and a gorgeous tone.
I had to bottom out the saddle and the low E is still a tad high. It plays very good now but no doubt she has more to give. So come the warmer weather next year off to Jacobs Spa and Resort it will go for some good luvvin, chiropractic work to its neck, and a real pro set up.
Specs:
neck at nut 1.712
nut 1.717
string spacing at nut 1.472
spacing at saddle 2.12
upper bout 11-3/4
waist 9-5/8
lower 16-1/8
depth upper 4-1/4
depth lower 5-1/8
scale 25-5/8
