Shocking period videos, at your own risk. It's just S-100 appreciation ;]

A start

Then this

This

And this

And you just listened to couple hours on the radio back then, intermixed with Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains and Nirvana.

Then this killer Zeppelinesque song

Then this, damn, the feedback, the riffs.

"Soundgarden is like a loose steering wheel, like the tear of an eye dreaming"

Got his Mojo rising

Classic, cops a Metallica feel.

Jesus is my friend, 1990, where they cop a very Black Sabbath feel ;]

A whole lotta Grunge

No, this isn't about heroin, a George Harrison lick? Also seems to channel a little Motley Crue, very tasteful.

Beatlesque

Instant classic. This is Soundgarden.

S-100 workout

Insanely quintessentially Soundgarden. Crazy video, Stingray bikes and Mustangs.

New lows

Spacy, sounds a bit like Iron Maiden

Classic MTV, sounds like Pretenders having a playdate with Guns n' Roses.

A touch of KISS

As close to a ballad as these get. Grunge meets country meets the White Album.

Mission to Mars

Much later, kind of like Morrison standing in with Sabbath

I'm not a big Soundgarden fan but I think Kim Thayil has used S300A-Ds as well, at least live. I have to appreciate that.

A fellow I used to work with attended a Soundgarden concert in Philly at the Tower Theatre in Upper Darby in January, '13 with press credentials and got some shots of Kim Thayil and his Guilds right at the stage. I posted them before, but that thread has Photoeffinbucket watermarks. I put them up at Imgur and here you go. Photos are copyright (c) 2013 by Ben Pelta-Heller.

Rusty Cage blew my mind the first time I heard it. Kim Thayil used those old Peavey VTM heads like the one I used to own in highschool. For whatever reason despite that I caught hell for using a VTM and a Butcher then. I think Kim started using Mesa Boogies from Badmotorfinger onwards.

Missed one. Mind melting video. Actual blues solo, sounds quacky like a Strat.

This is cool!

did he ever state what got him into Guilds? or why he chose the brand?
I do not know much about the band. the music was too heavy for me, and the singer when he screeches, well, i just cant abide.
that being said, Burden In My Hand and Fell On Black Days I really liked, and when the singer sang lower ranges, it was beautiful. and that song he did with Vedder, real pretty.

still, the guitar player's solos were super original and the sounds he could produce with the different Fx. good stuff.

Some info on Kim Thayil and Guilds in my '94 S100 writeup:

Here's a closeup of the centerfold from June 1992 Guitar World (click to zoom):

Why is Kim one of the only ones ''in the know'' about Guild electrics? I can't understand why other well known musicians didn't catch on to the fact they are great playing guitars.🤔

He sent in a smashed white S100 to the Guild repair shop when I worked there. Not sure what happened to it but I glued, refretted, set it up, and sent it back.

I believe I read somewhere that he leaves that one at home now, so it doesn't get messed up again.
