Re: FS: 1996 Guild Manhattan X-170

Pretty sweet J. Just some thoughts for any prospective buyers including myself....
i.e. thinking out loud! :? because I'm not sure if you are the seller or not, thanks Joe.

Doubt if you'd get a nicer one at that price, but don't let that influence you..its your decision....Just because Guild will likely never build another one, and some people say that the world will end or change irreversibly in 2012, or there may be a world currency one day that will make everything out of wack and likely produce the equivalent of Euro prices, maybe half again or more. Just because you can stop looking for one of the all time finest guitars around at any price, and that you will have something that wouldn't be intimidated by a Gibson, or Gretch etc. Well think it over carefully and don't do anything impulsive before someone else does, and it might be a few more months or so before you see another one, that might need just a little TLC cause its been a flood or something... you should only buy this if you can do it without putting any undue stress on yourself or your lady etc.....Just because kitchen cabinets are on sale a lot more often than these guitars come along......just make a comfortable decision, like the rest of us do.....I know some people would push you to get it, but not me......you could always drop me a line in the middle of the night, if you decide not to get it....the sleepless nights shouldn't last that long. Well just my neutral comments that aren't in any way designed to try to influence you..... :D

Re: FS: 1996 Guild Manhattan X-170

I have one of these that I bought in 1988. Soon after I bought it, I took it to my luthier for his comments. He specializes in acoustic instruments, in particular restoring vintage instruments. He spent about 15-20 minutes going over it, doing all those arcane things a good luthier does. After that he said that he judges the quality of a build by whether or not he would enjoy working on a guitar. This made his list as one he would. From the looks of this one, it would also pass muster.

Sweet guitar. I sure like mine. It always seemed to me that this was a very under rated model. There are some really nice ones out there.
