So what’s the word on the New Hartford/Tacoma D-55’s?

There’s one at a pawnshop near me and they’re asking $1599. I’m not much for super blingy guitars but I can’t help but feel it calls my name from behind its glass display case. At the time of this post my experience with Guilds is largely with Westerly era stuff. I wanna say it’s a New Hartford make but I can’t tell so I’m gonna ask if the Tacoma D-55 is any good as well, I may call them to see if they won’t tell me which is it. It’s a gorgeous sunburst model too! Do they differ in sound from a Westerly?

Tacoma or New Hartford - you can't go wrong with either time period. I think there are a lot similarities among instruments from both eras. My two Tacoma-build instruments are wonderful.

Some recent talk about Tacoma:

From my observation, many here on LTG think highly of the Tacoma built Guilds and the D55 is no exception. You cannot go wrong with either. And very good price.

IMO that's a very fine price, assuming the guitar is in good condition.

Also IMO, the D-55's from Tacoma & New Hartford sound more alike (piano-like & chimey) than examples from Westerly (deeper tone).
