So I think I bought this...

Definitely an impulse buy: Supposedly 1969 (my birth year) D25 in "excellent" condition for what seems to be a pretty good price, and an easy return if it's not as advertised. SN is appears to be OG697 (or 06697?) which if I understand correctly is a Westerly guitar with a Hoboken label.

GC still has it as available despite my order confirmation from 9:13p ET. I'm half expecting to get a notice saying it's "out of stock" which has happened to me before. Did anyone else make a claim on it?

Yeah, love the look of the pickguards and bridges from that era!

GC's computerized inventory updates are not all they might be.

Reminds me -- a few years ago, their inventory showed there was a somewhat rare Guild in stock at one of their stores here in Massachusetts that I was keen to check out. With a round trip drive of more than two hours ahead of me though I called first to make sure it was really there.

The clerk who answered put me on hold, came back five minutes later and said, "Yup, it's right here, hanging on the wall in our acoustic room."

I got to the store and the guitar was nowhere to be found. One clerk said, "I just saw it"; another said, "Maybe one of our instructors is giving a lesson with it,"; another said, "Maybe it's in the repair room."

After a half hour, the store manager came out and told me someone in Florida had bought it online and they'd shipped it to him more than a week prior, but no one had bothered to update the inventory.

He said, "Yeah, we're really sorry, the person you spoke to should have actually checked," (which is what I thought he was doing while I was on hold); "he just looked at the computer inventory and assumed it was still here."

Driving home I got caught in a heavy New England blizzard.

An exhausting four-hour bite out of my life I'll never get back.

Definitely an impulse buy:

Congrats, you're the first one on these forums whose ever done that!! hehehehehehe

I saw it yesterday, I have a Cherry Red one but would prefer the BR like yours. It was gone when I looked again later....(Thanks!!)

Hopefully you received confirmation by now. I love the look of the top, it really has aged well.

Yep - I know the feeling. Just a guess, but North Attleboro? I've had great experiences there and but also I've been so ticked off that I've walked out while in the process of making a purchase.

It's OG 697, which makes it a D-25 from the year 1970.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Darn - I couldn't confirm in the serial number lookup, but it seemed that all OGs might be from 1969. Thanks Hans! Safe to assume it's made in Westerly despite the label? Glad to confirm it's a hog top, as that would be my first.

I don't expect to hear anything for a few hours at least - will keep you posted. Thanks for the comments all!

Congrats Coop (y)! Saw that on GC a few days ago and thought - man that
looks super clean and well cared for, don't often see those in such good cosmetic condition.
Love the early-style pickguard, that's part of the charm, couldn't have
been too long after that the traditional Guild pick guard began to appear on D25s.
May it arrive safely and play well!

It's off the site, but still no word from GC. May need to call after work.

What a guitar. It'd be neat to get tone tests against the smaller pickguard more common model.

Reminds me, two years ago, a buddy tells me about this old man that had a collection of guitars, but I was kind of not really doing guitars much and forgot about until cleaning up old scribbly notes, I found the guy's phone #, and called him. Too late of course, he sold the whole collection to the local vintage shop, but he kept just one, and proceeds to tell me about this first year D35, a 1968, one of the first 100, the 1968 NAMM show and how the first ones were built to really impress, and he's got this guitar, like dead mint he says, with case, and of course it sounds like a choir of angels...

To wife's dismay, I even made a date to go meet him someday, to check out the guitar and we had a ton in common. Never did though. Buying guitars on the net is easy and sneaky. Taking a day off everything to go meet somebody, hang out, way too obvious.

Need to find that number again...

The pickguard is an exact match to my 70 D 35, and the tuners apear to be original too. Your logo is bright and crisp too. Mine is faded. Bridge is likely Brazilian rosewood. Maybe even the fret board. A very clean example for sure.
