I just got one of these off ebay. Virtually new with the original case. It has really started to open up and I can't say enough about how good this thing sounds. I'm a little lukewarm to the heavy staining guild does on the mahogany but the adi top makes up for it. Wow what a sound! Lots of volume and very clear articulating on the individual strings, strummed or picked. Has bell like tones on the trebles when finger picked. If I were to do this purchase again I would probably go for the D50 as it has rosewood back and sides along with the adi top and I like the rosewood appearance better but don't know how it sounds. I played a Martin D-18GE and the D40 is easily it's equal if not better. I don't think you can wrong with this Guild.

Dang it....I just got done typing a lengthy post that compared my D-40BJ to my D-18GE Martin and it flat disappeared! I can't go through it all again! Bottom line....I love both guitars! You won't be disappointed with the Guild D-40 BJ if you enjoy the sound qualities of a nice Martin D-18GE. My D-40 is a steller guitar!

well, i wont be buying a new guitar for a while now, the F212XL is my one machine, my wife has a J-45. but if i ever get another guitar, i have decided it to be a Guild D-40 BJ, a new tacoma one. i just like how solid guilds feel....i always liked what richie havens said re why he only plays Guild. something about all his folk playing buddies had martins were always too careful not to break them. but his guild he could throw across the room and it would stay in tune....cool! i only wish i had woken up re guild long ago, like when i lived in RI and was 40 minutes fromthe factory. but hey, at least i finally figured it all out....

Wood,

Better late than never! The Guild convert list continues to grow. My brother's first "nice" git was a Gibson Hummingbird. Nice git, but it would go out of tune way too often, and then one day we discovered Guild. The Hummer was quickly traded for a D-50 which was twice the guitar in every respect, minus the birdie. Almost straight-up trade if I recall right. That's more years than I like recall sometimes (34), but Guild has been it since then.

It's almost like a religious experience. I kinda like to think if God plays guitar it's with a Guild. 8)

BTW, the system times out if you're on too long without a prompt. For long posts, its easier to do in Word and then copy...

:)

My 2006 Tacoma D-40 BG Jubilee is the finest sounding mahogany dreadnought I have ever played. And I have played a lot of them since about 1955. I keep thinking there's got to be a catch here somewhere. Have they accomplished that great sound by making the wood and bracing so light that it will eventually implode? Or will it soon develop a bad top belly making it difficult to play? I'm a natural born worrier, but in the meantime I'm playing the crap out of it and enjoying every minute of it.
