So I'm a weak weak man. A guild amp showed up on my search on the Connecticut Guitar center website. There's a little bit high for what I normally would want to pay, but I saw some things on there that were kind of unique. So I put it on the GC credit card, and just chided myself for having no self-control. I figured I would call them up around 1:00, and ask them to bubble wrap the tubes and to pack the amp securely before they put it into a box. The last couple of things I bought from Guitar center had shipping damage. Couple of minutes ago I get a phone call from Connecticut! turns out the manager up there asked one of the sales people to give me a call and ask me if I wanted the tubes pulled and packed before they shipped the amp. I have never had a Guitar center do that before. The last amp I bought from the Hollywood store, you know the showcase store, had shipping damage because they packed it like a chimpanzee. So don't have time to look at the actual store location, but it's the Guitar center in Connecticut and I am really impressed by their customer service.

That's refreshing to hear a compliment about GC. They get plenty of negative comments so I enjoyed hearing this.

There's four GC's in CT. Which one? I'm betting the Orange store.

First of all, it's truly astounding that a music store worker would not have the know-how or sensibility to question how to pack a vintage tube amp. Uggh! You're extremely lucky that someone did this time. Fingers crossed that it arrives undamaged.

Also, what model amp did you buy?

It's a mid-fifties tv-front two tone, with 6V6s. It might have been Noah Miller's amp. He posted posted a while back about one with that tube set. It's that weird transition period just before the J series.

Ooh - sounds fun. 6V6s are my favorite power amp tubes. They can generate so many different tone flavors. Is it part of the Masteramp series, and does it have the script Guild logo?

I seem to recall you scored a Masteramp before -- maybe a 66-J? I think it ran 6L6s, which was odd.
