Hadn't followed this thread...

FWIW I had a X175 (big deep 17" archtop) and a Starfire III shipped to me from Florida by USPS, both cost me a little over $100 and were insured for around $1000 if I recall correctly, and both got here without even a scratch on the box. Both were in standard guitar cases, packed well in a cardboard box with packing peanuts.

Have received several packages with Allparts guitar parts, including Fender-type necks from Don, also shipped USPS, and usually fairly cheap too. And sort of extra cheap these days because of the value of the € and US$.

The only trouble I've ever had was with Belgian customs being horrendously slow in processing things and horribly bad at communicating, but that's a whole different story.

"Cap" has landed in The Netherlands and is in the hands of its new owner who is positively delighted. 6 - 10 days turned into 18 days, but I'm not complaining. Thank you USPS.

Great to hear, and I, for one, am not the least bit surprised... as I was saying earlier in my 15+ years of International shipping deals with USPS, I haven't been let down once. As long as you don't make any ETA promise, your stuff will get there and for a reasonable rate.
GO USPS! 8)

Maybe customs decided to try it out first...
Hehehehe... I was thinking that. There's gotta' be some perk just dealing with boxes all the time!

My latest guitar that I bought was handed to USPS on 3/22 in New York and arrived at customs in Germany on 3/28, so 6 days. However processing through customs (and moving from Frankfurt airport customs to local Munich customs department) took another 2 days, I was notified on 3/30 to pick it up in customs in Munich (they don't deliver them, you actually have to pick them up at customs). So all in all only 8 days from giving it to the post office in NY until I was able to pick it up in Munich. And only US$104 shipping cost (not including duties and customs fee and VAT). Can't complain about that shipping cost. But mind that USPS did only insure for $500, the value of the guitar was more. But that is the risk involved...

>>>Whew!<<<
:) That was my thought exactly, Frosty. I was very uncomfortable/worried about this, especially after I had to cut the box down and leave the top of the box pretty vulnerable to a fall.

Oh well, all's well. The new owner is ecstatic with "Cap" and I'm relieved and happy for him.
