A point of usefulness that RT always subscribed to: if a part is replaceable, be prepared to replace it. These are tools, use them as that. Even if they're precious to us, they aren't precious in the world. Apropos of what Mr. 2Corgis wrote about roundwounds digging in "slighty".

Here's the thing though. If the round wounds are leaving marks in the fingerboard, and you like the way the flats sound and they don't, why risk damaging the fingerboard? I agree that parts can usually be replaced easily, and if it was a Fender I wouldn't think twice, but when's the last time you saw a fretless Pilot neck for sale?
