So I learned never to take the guitar out of its case when its standing. I did just that this morning and the shift in weight caused the case to tilt and slam shut on my d55 causing what I believe is horrible but many might think it is minor. I want to make that dissapear and fix it and was wondering if anyone has any advice or experience on this matter. I live an hour south of the new Guild factory in CT if that helps for any reccomendations..........Greg

I shivered when I read your account. :( Sorry to hear about it, and I sympathize. And a good lesson for all of us.
Most builders have their own repair shop, and it's a good question whether New Hartford has established theirs yet. A call to them could tell you quickly, and whether they want to fix it or have an authorized dealer/repair shop handle it. Either way, I don't think I'd ask an un-authorized luthier, even a good one, to repair it since it is virtually new. There might a risk of voiding the lifetime warranty. "Might", I emphasize. Don't know for sure.
Any pictures of the damage?
Keep us posted after you get it fixed. That would be a good tale to share.
Good luck!

I think the warranty is already voided because I bought it from an unauthorized dealer to begin with. At the time it was impossible to get d55's in ice tea burst and this place got it for me the fastest. Not that the warranty would cover this screw up anyways

You might check with our member "Hideglue" to see if he or the store he does some work for can fix her up. I think when Hide worked at Westerly, he was a finish guy (as in made sure they were perfect when they left)....and he's in your area.

Hi West,

Close.....actually started in Final Assembly as Tuner/ Adjuster -- including a QC stage-- and then onto Repair Shop -- which included a ton of finish work.

Greg,
I help out Ken Nash (former Head of the Factory Repair Shop) at The Guitar Mechanic in New London.
Not that it matters in your case, but we are an authorized repair shop for Guilds

My apologies to Don (and to the forum) if this violates any rules of solicitation

I've got one I'd love to send you guys Hideglue, but shipping it there and back scares the begeebers out of me. My D55 has a dent through the finish to the spruce, in the dark part of the sunburst. I'd also like to get someone who knows more than I do to check out the bridgeplate....seems like a couple of string balls pull up too far inside the plate to me (could be the pin fit I guess) As you tension the tuners, it pulls the pins up. I'd also get y'all to fit her with some bone abalone pins. She sure sounds good though. She's the 7th to last D55 to come out of Westerly. If I can ever get up the nerve, I'll send her to ya.

How long and deep is the indent?

In some cases you can work the dent out by dripping water in it, using multiple applications, in very small amounts.

Basically what I do is wet a corner of a paper towel, wring it out a bit, and then carefully wring water into the indentation. This usually does a pretty good job of removing the dent. The finish repair is obviously another story.

As an objective voice, everybody in CT knows you can't go wrong with the Guitar Mechanic.

Thanks Chris, but not this one. It's in the black part of the sunburst and goes all the way through to the white spruce. How big?......the exact size of the head of a bridge pin.

It happened when the shipper ( who meant well) included a spare set of bridgepins in the case compartment. Problem was, he didn't put them in any sort of container or bag. In shipping, one worked it's way out of the compartment and embedded itself in the top, right in the bottm of the lower bout.

Here's one of the shots I sent the seller, about 2 minutes after I opened the case. The pin is still stuck in the lining.

Damn, that's sort of painful to look at. A few drops of water won't fix that.

Maybe if you mix the water with some single malt and drink it? :D

Just trying to help,

Jeff
