At the urging of Thunderface, I'm making my inaugural post with pics of my newly-acquired 1974 S-50. When I found it, it had a Seymour Duncan Phat Cat installed, but I tracked down a mid-70s HB-1 to return it to its original glory!

Nice. Any sound clips? I'm always curious what those sound like with the pup in that position...

Welcome BB, and didn't I tell you the LTGers would love to see those photos? That HB-1 makes your S-50.

I'm no good with sound clips but I'll tell you this - the HB-1 is an impressive pick-up for sure. No matter how good I feel about the sound of my S300-D (and it is most satisfying, to be sure) it doesn't have the clarity and robust sound of the HB-1. It can even be quite jarring to hear the difference!

As for the position of the pickup in the S-50, I will admit that it takes some getting used to. It can be bothersome to pick right over it because I tend to tap on it too much, so you have to learn to play either in front or behind it depending on what sound you want (darker to brighter, obviously).

I like seeing the Classic series Peavey amps as well. An underrated amp for sure. Nice S-50!

Thanks! My "Stack O' Peaveys" works out great. There's a Classic 20 w/ a Weber Silver Bell, a Classic 30 w/a Weber Blue Dog, and a stock 15" extension cabinet. It gives me 4 different speaker combinations (10", 12", 15", 12"/15") at different power levels, so plenty of flexibility.
