My recently-acquired '83 D212 is doing well. I have been experimenting with the saddle material and height. The saddle it came with it is an old yellowed material, that is rather soft - it bends. The height, however, is rather low, so I tried to glue a shim to it, but I made a mess of it all with the super glue. I also had a bone saddle made, which is compensated for good intonation, but the sound is not the same as with that old yellow rubbery saddle. With the bone, the sound is good, more crisp and loud, but not quite as buttery and smooth. I am interested in having another saddle made, that would be smooth sounding like the old one. Does anyone know what material Guild used for saddles in the early 80s, and what material would be a good choice for the smooth sound I am seeking?

Thanks, Steve-O.

Dane, I think it is micarta - thanks. What about the nut material? It looks like white plastic. I just found out my nut has a crack in it. I'd like to use as close to the original material as possible, due to my fondness of the tone I am hearing.
