We had to put down our sweet Koko dog tonight, she was 13 years old and full of cancer, she was panting and having a hard time breathing and couldn't get up, so we knew it was time. There was much weeping.

When she was younger, she gave us 35 chocolate brown puppies (3 litters.) We kept 2 of her puppies. Several of her puppies became service dogs for special needs people.

Since she was 5 she's just been living the good life. She absolutely loved to swim; she would jump in any old body of water.

She was the best dog ever; great with people and kids and other dogs too. She will be sorely missed.

So sorry for your loss. My dog Buddy passed away four years ago, and I still get melancholy thinking about it. It never gets easy, but maybe that's a good thing.

Dreadnut,
I'm very sorry for your loss. As a life-long pet owner, I know how difficult decisions like this are, and the terrible feelings of loss that result.
Again, I feel for you and your family.

Definitely a sad day. We know the feeling. It's good that you have a couple of her pups to carry on.

Sorry for your loss dread. Dogs are like children in our family, except they are always happy to see you and never talk back. Truly man’s best friend. It’s never easy. RIP Koko.

It's the only down side I've ever experienced when it comes to pet ownership. It always breaks my heart and I swear I'll never put myself through that again. But then, I realize it's not about me but those great animals (in my case always Shelter dogs and cats) that need and deserve a nice, loving home.

So sorry Dread, she seems like a really sweet dog.

Thanks for all the kind words and well wishes.

When I get to Heaven, I want to ask God why he gave man's best friend such a short life.

I'm pretty sure the primary reason he gave us dogs was to teach us about unconditional love.

Do you know the difference between a good dog and a girl friend?

You can put your dog in the trunk of your car for a ride around town and he/she will be happy to see you when you open the lid.

Life without pets is on the same scale as not being able to noodle on the guitar when I need to get away. Both have helped me through many rough times.

Hang in there. Time is the only remedy.

Ditto Richard. Plus, when you always have two dogs, I've found it best to get another in short order so the the one that remains isn't lonely.

Very sorry for your loss Marc, but she was very lucky to land with you. 13 years is a great run for a big dog, too.

Wow, yeah sorry for that. I’m sure lots of folks here can empathize with You. I only had one dog, a German Shepard I bought as a pup. She passed at 7 years old from a seizure 20 years ago. Wife was waiting in the drive when I got home from work. I was sad but ok the first day, it’s when the next day came it hit me. Took a long time. So sorry Dread
