Can't help it and it was a bit surprising to me but I was working on a few songs today and found myself playing my JF 55-12, my G-312 and my F-412 to get the tone/sound I was after.

Then I picked up a recent acquisition, a Westerly Collection D-1212E, and I gotta say I prefer it to any of the others I played. The F-412 was a close second. Looks like I may be selling a couple 12 strings soon.

I've always loved the sound of an all Hog guitar and to me this one sounds terrific and looks really good as well. They did a nice job on this model I think.

I wouldn't consider that sacrilege my good sir.. Yes it's MIC, but the design is based on US Guild. I have played the 1212 Westerly Collection at Sam Ash and I was more than pleased to say the least. As a matter of fact there is one on CL here in Dallas that is being offered up for $550... Tempting. That is a fine guitar. I think 12 strings over a hog top is a really nice combo.

To add on if there is one gripe I have with the MIC both GAD and WC is the poly... so... much.. poly.. The bad news its a guitar covered in plastic. The good news is these are often well built and sound great to start with. Not to mention, just really pretty guitars..

Is it loud? The reason I ask, I have a D-120 which is also all mahogany. Its louder than my Martin D-18 and my Epiphone J45. I had always heard that all mahogany was quieter, maybe mine is an exception.

My old 85 D17M was all hog and it BOOMED - it was so loud. Ended up trading it for an 85 D212 - I’m happy with the trade. The D17 was a little *too* loud for me

Not sure I call it loud although it has more volume unplugged than I'll ever need and the electronics are a nice feature as well. It is superbly balanced and has that sweet Mahogany tone/vibe I've come to appreciate.

It's strange, although I likely have more Rosewood guitars than any other tonewood it is likely my least favorite. I don't hate them or anything but they can get a bit muddy with a bit too much low end at times. I prefer the sweet, crispness of Maple and the balanced, sweetness of a Mahogany guitar these days.

Here's the thing to me: They'll be truly comparable when they start getting a premium price for offshore guitars. As for now, people are paying the bigger bucks for hand-made American acoustics.

Can't find a date and the author has clearly not heard of Guild nor learned how to proofread or spell Gretsch but it does seem to collect a lot of the common wisdom. For me, that is that price and quality correlate well for new guitars. The generalization that you can get more when you pay more seems to hold true.

Yeah I played 2 a couple weeks ago that crushed a Taylor 12 3x the price.

But then again a $300 Epi 12 ate the Guilds for lunch.

I'm still looking for a hog 12 that will knock my old Ibby off it's perch

I know what you mean, the "so much" was often an issue with the GAD models. But many Westerly, RI, USA built Guilds were sprayed in poly and people always forget about this...

Well 30 of 47 used Guilds on sale at GC are off-shore. But yeah, the price does drop off pretty quickly.

The brand, maker or country of origin of any guitar is immaterial.
If you think the Lithuanian made Fishnorton k79 all balsa dreadnought blows the doors off Jerry Olch's mother's butcher's Gibson "bird" guitar, then it is the guitar for you.
Nothing sacreligious about that.
Like what you like, and play what you play, and don't worry about what other people think or say.

What other people say or think is seldom a consideration, even just a little bit for me.
