Can't help it and it was a bit surprising to me but I was working on a few songs today and found myself playing my JF 55-12, my G-312 and my F-412 to get the tone/sound I was after.

Then I picked up a recent acquisition, a Westerly Collection D-1212E, and I gotta say I prefer it to any of the others I played. The F-412 was a close second. Looks like I may be selling a couple 12 strings soon.

I've always loved the sound of an all Hog guitar and to me this one sounds terrific and looks really good as well. They did a nice job on this model I think.
It would be interesting to hear what you'd say of an all Hog U.S. made 12 strings Guild compared to it, and to the other guitars you mentioned... Maybe you just like all Hog 12 strings better than any others... I find it interesting to hear that someone who can compare various U.S. made guitars to a MIC same brand side by side, ends up liking the Chinese made better. I know you have many guitars to choose from, and that's I think, the 1st time I hear such conclusion... Would it last is an other question still. I buy Flamenco guitars from Spanish makers/luthiers though, and American guitars from American builders...Might go for an Asian made electric however (Starfire II or III as I don't see any U.S. made here).

I did not know that. What models were done w.poly finishes?
I didn't know it to begin with Ralf. Any idea which models / eras?

Only some info from hideglue, who worked there:
"There was plenty of polyurethane sprayed in Westerly (solidbodies and archtops), I'll leave Hans to expound in Vol. II"

When somebody asked Hans in the past when they switched using polyurethane Hans said:
"There's no straight answer here. They switched back and forth several times."

That is a fine guitar, I have a D1212 and agree with you that it is well made, looks great, and sounds amazing. Doesn’t matter where or who makes it, it’s a solid instrument 👍🏼

I grin every time I pick up my GAD D125-12. It does have the sonorous majesty of the JF4-12 but it is damn fine guitar.

Pretty, too (and very reflective).

I have 2 MIC Guilds. A GAD140CE, and an F1512.Both of them are outstanding guitars. I also have 3 F512’s, an F612, 2 F50R’s and an F 212, all,of which were built between 1969 and 1975. While the MIC Guilds don’t compare to my vintage Guilds, they are definitely a close second.

When it comes to taste, I'm not dissing what anyone likes. I mean I'm in love with my 65 Epiphone Texan with the infamous skinny neck and adj bridge. For sure Gibson's Kalamazoo factory made some pretty bad guitars, maybe the next one in line. I was lucky, and I forked over the dough. Then promptly forgot about it.

Cynthia and I bought a Guild GAD40 for a buddy of mine a few years back and it stayed here at the house for a couple of months before I presented it to him. I loved it. It was different sounding, but I loved how it played. Sounded unlike any "Guild" I'd ever played, but for the money especially, I really liked it.
