I acquired this battered but functioning Guild S60-3/4 today. It's funky, it's weird, it's tiny. I can't find very much about them anywhere: build numbers, dates, history, anything. I'm guessing this is late 70s, maybe early 80s... but don't know anything beyond that.

I've got some work to do on it to bring it up to playability (the fingerboard is separated up to the 5th fret and needs to be removed and reglued, the finish is scabby so I'll clean and touch up w new lacquer, and the original tuning pegs are toast) but it'll be fun fun fun to play in the studio.

I'm thinking of stringing it light and tuning it up to ADGCEA or open C (GCGCEG) for studio magic overdubs.

Anyone have any info on this model???? IMG_20211204_141459.jpg20211204_141614.jpg

Rode hard and put away wet.

I would clean and polish but leave the wear alone, touchups are a big turnoff for me

Can you post a pic of the fingerboard separation?

Welcome to LTG! The "normal" S-60 had a 24 fret neck and that 3/4 model a 22 fret neck. Otherwise they should be the same. And she has the famous Guild HB-1 humbucker.
Serial number will tell the year she was built.
That 1978 catalog gives you the best info available. In Sept 1978 a S-60 was US$ 299.00 in the pricelist.

There is a thread about those models with this body shape:

That's a cool little guitar! Should be a blast to play after you get it the way you want it!

No big refin, just want to respray a little clear lacquer to "melt into" the really damaged, pitted, sticky finish. (After i clean it and remove all the sticker goo) I'll post some pics of the fretboard ASAP

More pics.

You can see daylight through the fret board. 😳

The neck and heel joints are solid, which is a blessing from the Lord Almighty up in heaven and the angels.

I got it from the original owner's widow. It had sat in the corner of her living room (no case, natch) for decades being banged on by kids and grandkids.

When she wanted to finally let it go, she called me cause she wanted it to "go to a good home" (what an honor, and what a classy lady) IMG_20211205_114126.jpgIMG_20211205_114155.jpgIMG_20211205_114225.jpgIMG_20211205_114234.jpg

Oh, almost forgot...
Serial number ED100031
(edited, it looked like "LD..." but Hans suggested i look closer and sure enough. I can see very faintly that it's an "E")

Fretboard looks like the guitar was played by Freddy Kreuger. And at least the top layer (i haven't examined it closely) of the pick guard is cracked. But it's staying put for now.

Also, a reminder to NOT put stickers on nitro finishes...IMG_20211205_114258.jpgIMG_20211205_114328.jpgIMG_20211205_114346.jpgIMG_20211205_114409.jpgIMG_20211205_114425.jpgIMG_20211205_114545.jpg

I've never played a 22" scale and I imagine it would feel quite cramped to my bass playing hands, but a very cool guitar and surely a fun project to get it back to player-grade. I rescued a 1967 Starfire bass about 7 years ago that needed tons of TLC as well. I didn't worry about cosmetics and just got it back to physically stable and playing well. I've recently really bonded with it and it's been my go-to bass for the last few weeks.
