What years was the original S-50 produced?
Thanks!

It depends on what you mean by “original”. The design was evolving a lot. It started in ‘63, and in ‘66 they changed from the asymmetrical headstock to the 6 on a side headstock. In ‘70, the body shape changed to the SG-ish shape.
Pickup type and other components also changed through the years.

I see that now. The strap button on the early 60’s on the horn, then it moved to the body. Looking to pick one up and it’s listed as 70’s but was not sure. I’m waiting on SN now.
thanks

Just for demonstration of the shapes, those are not my guitars.

Nice collection! Really shows the progression of the design. That last one would make a nice mate to my Bluesbird

Loved my red S-50 with Hagstrom vibrato and chrome soap bar single coil pickup.
But that Hagstrom bridge would tear up the palm of my hand.
As a kid to have more than one electric was unheard of unless you also played bass so traded it in for a Polara. Always missed the tone I got out of that S50 with the pickup located in the middle of the body.

That headstock on the right is so wild on that size guitar!

...and we've discussed the tone and love/hate of a single middle pup before, so I'll just say "+1".
