This is awesome!!! Did you go to that concert?

On youtube is footage of a concert he did just a week after that:

And here he is 30 years later, young at heart:

One of the many underrated guitarists I think.

Thanks for sharing and did I miss the year? Love going back in time and having my memory recall days gone by.

Shankar hated the fact that people got stoned at his performances...

From Salon.com: "...and Shankar went on to perform at festivals like the Monterey International Pop Festival in 1967 and at Woodstock in 1969. But he eventually began to regret these appearances—because his music became associated with drugs. “People would come to my concerts stoned, and they would sit in the audience drinking Coke and making out with their girlfriends,” he said in 1985. “I found it very humiliating, and there were many times I picked up my sitar and walked away. I tried to make the young people sit properly and listen. I assured them that if they wanted to be high, I could make them feel high through the music, without drugs, if they’d only give me a chance. It was a terrible experience at the time.” Still, Shankar gained lifelong fans: “But you know, many of those young people still come to our concerts,” he added. “They have matured, they are free from drugs, and they have a better attitude. And this makes me happy that I went through all that. I have come full circle.”

I tell you what, I had to take a break and walk down to a lower level periodically.

I was kinda bored by Ravi Shankar. I was 20 years old, in the Navy at the time.

So who was his Jack Bruce?

I saw him ten years later at a small club where I used to play and roadie for other bands. Hung out with him between sets, called me "mate", and told me to get my strings up as high as possible. I'm still letting that lesson sink in.

$6 in '75 is only $28.59 adjusted for inflation, so what happened?

That was about the average price for concerts on the West coast at that time - Seattle Center, San Diego Sports Arena, etc.

Saw Led Zeppelin a few weeks later at the Seattle Center for $7.50. They were commanding a higher price! LOL

Live Nation and Ticket Master is what happened. And the fact that many large acts now must make money from touring and merch, not album or CD sales since streaming royalties are so pitifully small.

James Dewar would be Trower's "Jack Bruce," no? He sang on the albums & songs Trower is mostly known for.

I remember hearing Daydream on the radio in the mid-'70s and then going to the local record store and asking the clerks "Who plays that song called Spellbound?" One guy looked at me, puzzled, while the other laughed & smiled & then fetched me a copy of the Twice Removed From Yesterday album. 😊

"Bridge of Sighs" is an awesome song! Dewar had a great voice - when I first heard them I thought it was Paul Rodgers. And yes, Trower is definitely Hendrix-ish...

Absolutely spellbinding, maybe one of the best renditions, but needed to go on for at least another 10 minutes... He was spellbinding like that when I saw him, usually a pretty rowdy club, but the audience was transfixed, mute. You could have heard a pin drop, if only it was over 120 decibels ;]]

Here he is again in 1980, quite a monstrous pedal board, Roger Mayer client?

Saw Trower a few years back. It was more than $6. He can make a Strat his be-I-itch.

3 years ago. Crazy how I haven't thought about him years, yet he influenced nearly all of my licks. Or we just play the same licks. Great minds think alike. I watched this instead of BOS tutorials. Why bother with tutorials when you can watch the master?

2019 Inspirational playing. As in I want to rip off every lick and chord progression as my own.

I remember thinking, when I first got into The Who, "these guys are more than twice as old as me!" Then not long ago I read that Pete Townshend had just turned 75 and I thought, "Hey, he's only 15 years older than me!" 😆
