Canadian, east coast, Celtic banjo whiz, Koady Chaisson, has passed away at the all too early age of 37. He was largely an east coast phenomenon, but he was also popular on folk circuits in the UK and Europe.

What reasons were given for his death ? That's very young indeed !

Here in the Maritimes, life is a bit more traditional. When a young man, particularly one who struggled for years with personal demons, passes away "suddenly", we tend to keep the "how" out of the media.

A lot of people young and old have been on the news lately having passed quite suddenly and without a cause of death reported. Honestly, I don’t understand the fascination, it’s just tragic and sad, especially for someone who brings us joy through art and entertainment. Ain’t nobody’s business except the family, but that’s the life of someone who lives in the media I guess. RIP Koady.

I don't mind families voluntarily listing causes of death when they suggest, in lieu of flowers, donations to charity NGO research or support groups working in areas related to the cause of death.

Other than that, knowing ain't really my business unless I were a close friend.

Life is hard for musicians everywhere I bet. In my country this kind of music doesn't get any support at all through medias and even audiences...Everyone is kept busy "listening" to people talking over recorded music done by machines -to a large extent- that they (seem to) think is important or valuable, when genuine musicians are usually almost completely ignored  . Others are mostly business products too. That's a major reason for my concern in knowing. Of course I respect the will not to tell. Gigs cancelation almost everywhere it seems, makes our life even harder...

I would think so.

If it is not inappropriate to inject a little levity into the sad situation here, I can relate a joke:

Saint Peter is at the gates of heaven, checking the credentials of those trying to get in. A man comes up. Saint Peter asks him, "And how much money did you make last year?"

They man hands over his documents and says nervously, "About $3,000,000 .... uh .."

Saint Peter says, "Hmmmm .... And what did you do in life?"

The man looks anxious and says, "I was a lawyer, but I always did a lot of pro bono work for charities and legal aid and was always active contributing to my community."

Saint Peter looks over the man's documents and does a database search on his name. He looks up and says, "OK. It all checks out you can go in."

The next in line man comes up. Saint Peter asks him, "And how much money did you make last year?"

The man replies nervously, "About $7,000,000 .... uh ."

Saint Peter says, "Hmmmm .... And what did you do in life?"

They man hands over his documents and says, "I was a doctor, a specialist, but I always did a lot of pro bono work in third world countries with Doctors Without Borders and contributed money, time and services to charity hospitals."

Saint Peter looks over the man's documents and does a database search on his name. He looks up and says, "OK. It all checks out you can go in."

The next in line man comes up. Saint Peter asks him, "And how much money did you make last year?"

The man smiles at St. Peter as he fumbles around looking for his documents. He can't find them.

Saint Peter asks him again, "And how much money did you make last year?"

The man shrugs his shoulders and says, "I don't really know. Maybe two or three thousand dollars."

Saint Peter smiles and says, "Cool. What instrument do you play?"
