Legendary recording engineer Bill Leader passed away a few days ago and sadly without much mainstream notice. A search for any obituary in mainstream media turns up pretty much nothing.
If you were a British Folk Music enthusiast but you were not one to read the fine print on your album covers, Bill Leader would have been the invisible man. Yet he was there, always there, as integral a part of the scene as any musician. I believe he started out on a shoe string budget recording albums with a Revox deck in his flat. He recorded Bert Jansch's first album in this manner.
