We are loosing way too many of my childhood heroes.

I grew up in Mayberry or at least it's twin in Northern Utah.
I still love that show.

You have to put Andy and Don right up there with all of the best 2 man teams ever.
I bet Andy is going to have a great time up there picking with his good buddy Doug Dillard.

RPI Andy.

I was a big fan.
His easygoing Andy Taylor is what I'll remember more than anything. I always enjoyed seeing him and Opie walking home with their catch of the day.
That whistled theme song will be forever etched on my brain!

RIP, indeed. :(

That's really sad...

He was one of my late father's favorites, we used to watch the show together. Don Knotts and he were one of the greatest comedy teams.

And don't forget "No Time for Sergeants", one of the funniest movies ever (IMHO). Here is Griffith/Knotts in a great scene from that film:

He played a completely different kind of character in 'A Face in the Crowd'. Great movie. A young Lee Remick co-starred and she played a high school cheerleader............ YOWZA  !

Yep, me too. In fact I've posted a couple of links here myself.

Thanks Ravon. that one was a real revelation for me too, right up there with seeing "Kid Creole" for the first time, I was already in my 40's.

I didn't see it until a couple years ago on 'Turner Classic Movies'

Here's another favorite Andy Griffith routine about the discovery of the new world.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhwAIllDsTE

I remember as a very young kid hearing him do this on TV. Every time someone laughed he'd look up and smile and say in his North Carolina twang, "I 'preciate that."

I can't remember the show, but I think it was before I ever saw an episode of the Andy Griffith show.

It seems as we get older that's all that we lose, the coveted. :(

He also inspired the John Prine song "Fish and Whistle."

I saw a program once about the iconic old shows on TV, beginning with "I Love Lucy" and "The Andy Griffeth Show." Lucille Ball insisted on a live audience, and it worked so well for her show that the producers thought Andy was crazy for insisting on taping the shows and adding the laugh track, but he proved them wrong.
