Many thanks to Dean for recommending (and to tech Joe Glaser for confirming) lighter fuel/naptha for removing gummy label adhesive! It worked perfectly and was completely safe for the finish. I followed it with a little Stew Mac Preservation Polish and it's *almost* like the label was never there. It left a rectangular hazy spot in the finish that you see at certain angles (the label was clear plastic), but the result is WAY less ugly.

What look like a few hairline scratches where the label used to be are actually finish checking.

There go your wanker tales! :D

At least I won't need to buy naptha - have plenty of it and other misc. solvents down in the basement workshop.
