Congrats on your Martin! That's a nice model and no worries that it's not a Guild. Many of us have other brands of guitars and variety is the spice of life. Besides you get to still hunt for that special Guild and the hunt is often a lot of fun. :)

Like a friend of mine said when we were going bass fishing and using my boat. I asked him, "what lake he wanted to fish--Barkley or Kentucky Lake?" His reply was, "yo boat, yo gas, fish where YOU want to."
Nothing wrong with a Martin!

I had a 1980 M 36 for about 25 years, but I started being more of a flat picker ( used to be 50/50) and the m 36 ran out of headroom. Once I had dreads, I never played it, but it remains the most versatile guitar I've owned. I replaced it with a Martin D 35. Along with my Texan and Guild D 35 I have three different flavors of dread, and a Martin 00 15 12 fret too. The big three get played more or less equally, and the 70 Guild has the perfect neck for me. That guitar just has grown on me since I got it fixed maybe seven or eight years ago now. It has something undefinable that seeps into your system over time. It isn't an instant rush like the bass or lushness of a Martin. I guess balanced and defined would be the description.I remember the luthier who fixed it handed it to me and said, that's a great country guitar there. It tends to go in that direction. Chords don't muddy up and the bass is not prominent, but always there. And it's light, so I'll always vote for 68-72 as a sweet spot era, though I'm uninformed on Hoboken. I do however have a Hoboken label. It's on the dry side but not like my Texan which can slam tight bass at you all day long.

Nobody here will be upset if you find (or post photos of) a guitar (of any make) that you like.

I hope you enjoy the Martin, & good luck in your quest for the two Guilds.

Got here last week.
Photos attached.
...It does sound thinner than I thought it would.
But would I have bought it if I played it in a shop first? ...Its tough... I do know I would've A & B'd with a lot of other guitars and have taken a while lol.

The words that come to mind are...
Clear, detailed, every sound when flat picking is like stereo... This guitar is definitely the best sounding that I've ever owned.
It seems intimate though... Like it will take the banging chords out, but soft strum or flat pick and it provides detail in the high, mid, and low range...
It makes me want to get better at fingerpicking too...
This is a sweet guitar...

Once this covid things over I am planning on taking it to a few guitar shops and doing some comparisons with it.

I will say if I find anything that suits me better, I'm confident this guitar is worth what I spent on it or more.

And - My room reaks of rosewood! 😃
