"Spencer Davis, Whose Band Helped Power the Sound of the ’60s, Dies at 81
Hits like “Gimme Some Lovin’” and “I’m a Man” made the Spencer Davis Group, based in Britain, famous worldwide and launched the career of its lead singer, Steve Winwood.

Man, one of my all time Faves. Loved "I'm A Man" and "Gimme Some Lovin". We had a pretty decent group back in the day and we did these two songs pretty well. We may have had the best drummer on the planet.

Steve Winwood was pretty young (like many of us) when he recorded those songs. What band didn't cover those songs? I still enjoy them even today! If you looked at the album's I believe it defined who sang the lead vocals.

Spencer Davis...vapors.

I had always thought that the group name was a bit of Spenser Davis egotism, especially since the major talent in the band was the boy-wonder, Steve Winwood, whose association with Davis started when Steve was only thirteen. But I was entirely wrong about any egotism. The band initially had a different name, according to one of the BBC obit features. Muff Winwood, Steve's brother, suggested the name change. Davis was educated, articulate, and multilingual. He did not mind doing interviews with the press. The rest of band was not comfortable with being interviewed. As The Spenser Davis Group, the focus was on Davis, and so the band didn't have to hang around after gigs. They could head off to the pub.

RIP Spencer . . .

By the way, the old guy singing in this clip sounds almost as good as the little kid singing the lead vocal in Ralf's link:

So you just happened to find a clip from Finnish National TV program

Autumn 66 was my favourite album at the time - fond memories
