I been intrigued by this model as it’s spec’d with Pearwood back and sides which I never really heard much about for guitars. How do they sound? I heard the specs eventually changed to a maple back and sides sometime in the 70’s. Was this a particularly rare model?

I had a 71 pearwood D-44... To me, it sounded most like my mahogany 72 D-35. Maybe just a little richer. But very similar tone, with sparkling trebles, nice mids, and surprisingly nice bass. Very folksy sounding. I liked it a lot... but decided I didn't need both, and the D-35 was my first ever Guild...
