I'm thinking about purchasing a guitar I have not played yet, but will be able to try tomorrow.

It is listed as being in "very good" condition and is a dual pickup 1970 T-100D sunburst.

Questions:

1) Is this the guitar Fender copied when it reissued the Guild's that were like the DeArmond T-400?

2) Is there any reason why 1970 would be considered a "bad" year for this model?

3) Is it a true hollowbody with no center block/posts?

4) owner wants $900 for it. Is that reasonable? Comes with a '60's case.

Many thanks for any light you can shed on this guitar, GOOD & BAD!

IMO, answers are no, no, yes, YES!

Condition and playability matter, but if it meets your listen and fondle test, you have a good deal here.

I agree with Guildzilla's answers - if it is a player, the price is right.

I own a T-100 DP for a while now and I love the sound, the looks and the playabillity of that baby. It's a very nice and super strong guitar. Build to last and made to be played!
You got a good offer for a very reasonable price and including a '60's case.

Gerrit: That's a beauty!

The one I'm looking at is not anywhere as nice cosmetically.

Hey 6L6,
There are lots of fans of the T-100 here. Guildzilla and walrus are right on. Hans mentions in his book that QC and consistency was improved after the late 60s. I would guess that the neck is slim and most likely has the Guild HB-1 humbuckers vs. the Guild minis.

1) Is this the guitar Fender copied when it reissued the Guild's that were like the DeArmond T-400?
No, the Guild DE-400
2) Is there any reason why 1970 would be considered a "bad" year for this model? See above
3) Is it a true hollowbody with no center block/posts? See above
4) owner wants $900 for it. Is that reasonable? Comes with a '60's case.
Depending on condition, commonly $600-$1200, considerably higher for '58-'60. If it's in good shape, $900 is a good deal, esp w/ OEM 60s case.
Many thanks for any light you can shed on this guitar, GOOD & BAD!
Commonly check for headstock overlay shrinkage and binding shrinkage. Stock tuners often need upgrading for a gigging axe.

Good luck--jp

Should we veer this into; Show us your T-100-D thread?

Here's my '66!

Should have mentioned this T-100D is missing it's pickguard. Are original pickguards for a 1970 T-100D hard to come by?

Thanks to all for the great info above!

Guild archtop pickguards commonly come up on eBay, but they often sell for too much. Also, it's very hard to discern which guitar they belong to. If you go for one, make sure you get good measurements first, since these guitars came with so many different pickups.
