Been wanting to build some tube preamp builds on the cheap and ran into these inexpensive 12v step down transformers which I plan to run “backwards” to achieve 230v at 10ma (closer to 325vdc post rectifier) which will be enough for multiple 12ax7’s plates with the heaters being taken care of by the 12vac 1a wall wart going through a rectifier into a 12vdc regulator. Interesting enough I ordered it though the Walmart site but I guess Newark was the one that sent it (owned by Avnet who once owned Guild as I understand it.). I guess most people use a cheap $20 12v toroidal but I was too cheap even for that so I found a lot of 4 for $27 tax title and license. Hope to see what I can do with these. They have a very small footprint slightly over a square inch so well suited for maybe a Hammond 1590BB box.
