At the two open mics I've played out at, I'm always watching the guitars used. Most I've seen are either Gibsons or Takamines. Haven't seen a Guild yet. I performed at my second open mic this last week and when I opened my case, the guy who runs the open mic, who with a partner sings around the area professionally, commented on my D50 as I lifted her out. He thought it was beautiful and said he'd always liked Guilds and described them as "cannons".

It's a nice feeling to know I'd made a great decision so many years ago.

Guild fans are everywhere.

One of the traditional songs I play is 'Lovely on the water', and in about 3 verses the ending line is 'Where the plundering cannons roar' - I give it the bass strings at that point and it really is cannons :D

"Jimmies," here in New England, are the candy sprinkles that you put on ice cream cones. There's some sort of weird ice cream thing going on up here. We also call milk shakes "frappes." Then again, growing up in New York, there were other strange ice cream-related words... e.g., an "egg cream" is a unique drink with a dollop of ice cream in it. Man, I miss those.

I think, from the best of my mammary, that "Extra Jimmies" was an album track from one of the Fabulous Thunderbirds earliest albums. Just stuck in my mind, and I thought it was quite an interesting little phrase ........... "Give it some extra Jimmies !"

Coastie, do you have the lyrics anywhere? It probably refers to Jimmie Vaughan, though perhaps it's a reference to the ice cream thing I mentioned earlier. Maybe it's a pun.

Yes, logical ..... but I don't recall noticing a specific connection.

I'll check it out, and report back.
