Programmable Optical Guitar Pickup

This showed up in my New Atlas feed today: An optical humbucker-size electric guitar pickup programmable via a smartphone app. Currently the subject of a Kickstarter campaign.

output parameters can be tweaked digitally through a companion app running on a smartphone connected to the pickup over Bluetooth.

This amuses me way too much considering the secuirty horror stories about unsecured Bluetooth. Carry your guitar into a hotel lobby and it exchanges contact information with everyone there. Playing with your back to the audience because someone in the front row keeps messing with your settings. Your car and your guitar are paired for life...

I watched the video - and was wondering why there is this spanish guitar playing in the background - only to discover in the end, that the guy with red strat plays that sound - or was it just made to look like that? If it really would transfer a strat to that good sounding spanish guitar, then I'd be in.

Pretty cool, though I wish there had been a greater variety sound samples than the one background song, which I'm not even 100% sure was the oPic.

I'm ashamed I didn't think of the idea myself.

Agree with Nuuska and DTC. Their video left out the most important part of the product.
