To all who advised a professional set up for my D40C, THANK YOU! Just got my Guild back and it's a whole new guitar. The action now is a delight and the tone so sweet. She got a new lower bridge, a bit of fret work high on the neck and new bridge pins. Honestly, she's never sounded better!

Why so many don't do this is beyond me. But remember this, depending on your climate and interior conditions, your guitar may change from season to season. Some people even have a winter bridge and a summer bridge. Your guitar may need seasonal tweaks. Many pros do minor truss rods free. If you go in and do this, if it's a shop, buy a capo or some strings. There are issues that make a good setup impossible without major work. Glad it worked out for you.

I think you meant "saddle", right? Just so D-girl doesn't have conniptions about it. :D (Saddles are real easy to swap out)

I used to own two Guild Mark Series guitars (a Mark 53 and a Mark 72). I bought them used, but both came with their case candy, and both had an extra bridge saddle included. I don't know why the Mark guitars had the extra bridges included, but both were uncut (as in only roughly intonated), and were higher than the saddles that were on the guitar when I bought them. Maybe the Mark series guitars were more prone to soundboard movement with humidity changes (bracing is considerably different from any X bracing, so who knows?).
