The Guild GX series were thinline, routed solid body acoustic guitars with a Fishman pickup system installed. The body was solid mahogany with a spruce top. They were much like the more common Songbird, but instead of a acoustic type mahogany/rosewood set neck, the GX was equipped with a bolt on electric neck in maple with a rosewood fretboard. They were available in black, red, white, and blue.
The available Guild serial number/dating information shows that 771 were built in 1990. The charts also lost one guitar, number 772, built in 1993.
The similar Songbird guitars show over 40,000, (Edit: see Ralf's correction below), built from 1990 to 1996. The records show another 331 built with a modified naming scheme until records cease in 1999.
I know of three GX series guitars owned by members of LTG, myself included. One blue, and two white. I own one (yellowed) white, and just purchased a blue which has not been received. This will bring the total owned by LTG members to four. ( I may have missed some that are unknown to me). I owned one other black GX in the 1990s.
The reason that compelled me to post this information is due to the general scarcity of this model. I have hosted a search on eBay for at least five years. During that time I have not been alerted of a single guitar having been listed for sale. I have also had a search on Reverb for several years without a single guitar being offered. Searches of the internet has also yielded similar results. It is interesting that one of the only GX guitars to be shown on the internet is a red one that was sold by a LTG member.
This perceived rarity has brought me to ponder whether people who own this model tend to keep them, or sell privately, or if the numbers produced, though small, are correct.I
This model is one of my absolute favorite Guilds. It has a few features that were rarely, if ever, produced by Guild. The standout feature is the soundhole plaque this model adorns. This replaced the regular sticker on other models. Also the bolt on neck wasn't a often used build feature by Guild.

The shape is quite peculiar. It always looks as the horn was soooo much further away from fretboard than the bass-side upper bout.

Fact is - on my two Songbirds and X2000 - that is is a little further - 4-5mm - not constant ( they are Guild guitars 😏 ) - about 3/16 difference - but on most pictures it looks like much more. Especially when standing upright.

Nice recap of the things that make the GX's unique, but I think you got thrown off by the s/n prefix change on S4ce's/ Songbirds.
NO way they made 40,000 Songbirds. ;)

The "KKxxx" s/n's show about 2243 made through '93.

But the new prefix for the sequence begun in '94 was 4 digits long: "AE04" (Using the same logic D4's/D25's were all AD04's, D6's were AD06's, D30's were AD30's, and so on); meaning "AE040103" was only the 103rd one built in '94 (note the S4ce/Songbirds used same s/n sequence, and the "FB00132" showing for Songbirds in '94 is actually a dup of the S100 number 2 slots above it)

Going by the charts, then, they only built about 343 S4ce/Songbirds combined from '94-'96 as you noted, or about 2590 pieces total from '90-'96.

Without taking into account other potential errors that may not be detectable just from the charts. ;)

There are indeed not many pictures of GX models on the internet. And they either start with JH or HJ serial numbers! (One of those Guild oddities...)

What I found are thirteen only:

Ralf, the first Candy Apple Red one - is that a factory pickguard?

I doubt it very much, but it does have "that look". But a few details like the curved cut around the bridge, and the screws, they're not harmonious with the overall flow...( )

No. @richardp69 might know the story about that pickguard because there were also holes from screws on the bass side, so that guitar even had a pickguard on the bass side at one point in time.

Welcome to LTG, @Colbey0215 Would love to see more pictures of your GX.
Sure thing! I feel bad because it doesn’t get played barely at all - I’ve wanted to get back into but life gets in the way most of the time. 😂🤦🏼‍♂️

This may be another senior moment, GaH, but I'd swear we had that discussion at some point in recent memory.

I, personally, do not recall seeing any others with the Pilot on the headstock, but take that with a shaker full of salt.

Yeah we probably did. Just thought this thread may bring out another one.
