Happened by REAL GUITARS in San Francisco today and Ben handed me a gorgeous D-73NT to play.

Actually, I've never even seen a D-73 before and this one was simply gorgeous. Sounded/played/sustained great too. And to top it off, this guitar was in immaculate condition.

Ben felt the guitar was already sold for around $3K. Too bad because I would have loved to add this one to my stash (providing I HAD $3K to spend...).

Anyone in the Forum have a D-73? Heck, I've never even seen an Ad for a D-73!

Sure it wasn't a D70?

Did it look like this?

West R Lee: That's it!

Any idea when these were made and how many?

Is the one you pictured above in your personal stash? If so, could you post some more pics?

What an AXE!!!

Yessir.....there were 50 built in the '95 to '96 time frame. I'd have to go to the Fender site for the exact years, but I'm pretty sure '95 and '96. All built in Westerly of course. There are also a few DV73's with malachite inlay....beautiful guitars.

There were also a DV72, 200 built, DV74....bout 16 built, DV76, bout 8 of them, and a DV82......a prototype only as I recall. All the same guitar with different inlay.

Give me a while and I'll post some more shots.

Kind of embarressing, my truss rod cover is on upside down. Sorry about the lack of focus in the first shot.

That's definitely the one, West. GORGEOUS guitar! Many thanks for the shots!

What is malachite inlay?

Do you think the $3K the guitar sold for is the market for these?

Well thank you guys, she is a pretty guitar. How much is she worth, I'm laughing because we've just had this discussion in another thread. Hard to say, but I've seen a guy recently asking $5000, and there are several folks that would pay $3000. Is it worth $3000? If it's perfect and someone wants it really badly......maybe, in my book.

It's a very green stone. We found one in Dallas a couple of years ago....new old stock. My wife actually guessed it to be malachite......she makes jewelry out of semi-precious stone. I checked with Hans, and sure enough, they made a few with malachite. Serial # on those end in "MK".

BY the way 6, the malachite inlayed guitar was actually designated a DV72, not a 73. The DV72 has a bit narrower rosette, but that is the only difference.....like this:
