This was very nice - thank you. Good music and attention to the state of the planet.

One thing I was wondering about is - there is a fairly large selection of people playing in other countries than USA - but for some odd reason I did not detct a single one from "eastern block" - surely there are millions of people and plenty of musicians who could have joined this. So why?

If anyone thinks this post is political - and therefore against of LTG-rules - please say so and I will delete it.

Your question is not necessarily political, but any attempt at an answer probably would be!

Just a guess, but they may have simply been rejected to film there for something like this. Or maybe artist's representatives and unions were in opposition of including regions that don't abide by western copyrights? Nevertheless, I was actually a bit surprised to see Cuba included, and was thrilled they were. (y)

The event, a collaboration between Playing For Change, an organization that aims to connect the world through music, and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), presented by Corning® Gorilla® Glass and co-produced by Blackbird Presents, calls for equality, the recognition of human rights and an end to racism and discrimination.

Very well done! (My fav part (of course) starts at 23:45 where a dozen+ artists play When The Levee Breaks (featuring John Paul Jones and Derek Trucks!! Two of my alltime favs!!) (y)

The whole thing is worth a viewing IMO. Visually stunning, and very well performed. Enjoy.

Thank you for posting. I would likely not have come across it on my own. That was absolutely incredible!

I meant to watch part and come back later for the rest but ended up watching it all. And will watch it again, as well as send to friends.

Thank you again!

If you do a YouTube search for "Playing For Change", there are a bunch of other similar global performances that weren't featured in the big production special. ;)

Here's Robbie Robertson, Ringo Starr, and others doing "The Weight"

Good stuff! (y)

I remember that being posted here. It was incredible also! I'll have to look into their others. Putting these together takes a level of organizing and coordinating that I cannot even imagine, but they do it with flawless results. I tip my hat to everyone who had even a small part; all jobs well done!

All of them are quite good, imo. Love how the drummer (Ringo!) inquires at the beginning of The Weight, to confirm what key they are playing in!

I especially enjoyed this version of the Grateful Dead's "Ripple". Musicians include one of the Dead's drummers, one of Jerry Garcia's daughters, David Hidalgo, & David Crosby:
