He is playing a small jazz club venue (Keystone Korner) in Baltimore on Monday and Tuesday next week - two shows a night; 7 and 9:30. The 7 shows are sold out, but I may spring for the late show on Tuesday. Rare chance to see him close to home.

I was/am a big fan of Metheny's early stuff from the 70's. Went to see him a few years ago and it was so bad we have to leave. He was playing some new stuff and I think it was the whole side of an album or something. All I know is it was all just noise to me! And on top of the barely discernible "music", the mix was so bad it was nothing but high's and lows All you could hear was earsplitting treble and "brown note" bass!

We lasted about 20 minutes and split!

Oh man that’s terrible news Grot. I saw him a few times but it was…damn… decades ago. He was brilliant then.

He's teamed up with Antonio Sanchez, Linda May Han Oh & Gwilym Simcock. I look forward to the noise.. I did see him just before the Pandemic, and it was fantastic. He played a mix of old and new pieces, including some with his automated rube goldberg instrument (the orchestrion) which I liked a lot.

I saw him last fall with a friend who's a big fan of his. I think he played mostly newer material, and I'll admit I felt like some of it went over my head - but I'm not especially well-versed in jazz generally or Metheny's music specifically, and I got the sense the more dedicated fans really liked it. Probably didn't help that the hall was warm and I was tired, so I had to work to avoid nodding off. Despite that I still had a good time - even when I wasn't feeling it musically, it was interesting and impressive to see three excellent musicians playing.

Fantastic experience last night. Small club atmosphere. I had a front row seat - maybe six feet from where he stood (or sat) and played. Talk about an intimate view of his hands and instruments. If I stood up and took one step forward, I would have been on stage myself. o_O He led off with a beautiful piece on his 42-string Pikasso. Almost every song across the non-stop 90 minutes was a familiar Metheny classic. Might have been one or two I did not recognize (a good thing), but he played every one in a unique way, thanks in no small part to his excellent back up band - piano, bass, drums. My favorite part was when he sat solo with his Manzer baritone guitar. (Used for the encore too) Something about that sound just speaks to my soul, and having him so close felt like he was in my living room for a private session.
WOW!

Incredible to be so close Marty! What an amazing experience that must have been. Was it general admin seating?

Pretty much first come first served, and I was first in line (for a variety of reasons) Looked like they did reserve some of the closer tables for "special" people, (they were already there when I was let in) but honestly my seat was perfect - a little higher than the down front tables, so I was sitting at the same level as the stage, and no obstructions (people) in front of me.
