I guess (?) this is the first true parlor sized US built Guild offering in all these years, and new, so can't ask for anyone's review. I find it strange, if true. Are M-20s slightly bigger? Not a strange thing, as Gibson never went 'parlor' either.

First, I really dislike that particular script logo, which looks cheap to me. Honestly, the clip on the Guild site doesn't encourage me either, and reminds me of my frustration with the muted tone of the Oxnard M-40, with all due consideration to 'newness'. I bought one of the first a few years back. The presenter seems to be trying to push the poor little git. It'll be interesting to see used model pricing trends on Reverb and Ebay.

Even now? How sad. Thanks for the info, Walter. For some reason I thought everything was coming from Cali.

If you didn't like the US built M40, I highly doubt you'll like the P-240. When I tried one, I thought it sounded mighty small, especially for a 12 fretter. By comparison, my Martin 000-17SM (also a 12 fretter), sounds way bigger than its size, but it isn't a really fair comparison. I must admit that, other than my DeArmond Starfire Bass, I can't warm up to any of the Asian Rim Guilds, and I have certainly tried.

At least it's inexpensive.

BTW, loved my 000-17SM too. Let it go but I think I'll find another.

It is not a terrible guitar at all, at least mine isn't.

I did a sort of review of mine in a post when I was looking for a hardshell case.

Good to hear. I felt it was straightforwardly melodic enough in the clip, but to be specific, reserved sounding. So was my M40. Your review is very well done and covers all the bases.

Martin discontinued them for some reason (damned if I know why), and they've gotten pretty hard to find. I love everything about it except the slot head, and it's by far my favorite guitar for finger picking.

Curiously, though not nearly as easy on the hands, I dumped the 000-17 because my F30 was so close in tone I thought it was redundant.

The magic words are "Westerly Collection" which at the moment are synonymous with Made in China. Three digit model number beginning with a 1 or a 2 is also a hint. MSRP under $1,000 is also a clue.

Two year old (!) news, nothing new Guild announced in the recent e-mail.

that would be impossible at the prices those P240's sell for.

Some of the Chinese made acoustics are totally OK for the price, but the P-240 I tried was very underwhelming.
