New Member, First Post. Almost a year ago, I purchased an Oxnard 2021 M-40 GSR Teardrop Burst from Chicago Music Exchange.
What are your thoughts on Guild Special Run (or Reserve) models?

It seems that earlier GSRs have higher-end appointments and Guild would make about 20 editions of each model.
The Oxnard GSRs are one-offs and don't always seem to have high-end appointments.

Welcome to LTG! GSRs are all special in one way or another, and always a limited run, but the dynamic has changed a bit since the move to Oxnard. Is your guitar a satin finish?

Thanks for the welcome.
Satin finish.
It's the only teardrop burst I've seen on an M-40. Guild discontinued all of the M-40 versions except for the natural with electronics.

Beautiful guitar and welcome ReevesRd! I love that teardrop burst. You are correct in that traditionally GSRs had higher end appointments and were pretty limited in numbers. While perhaps technically true, I don’t like Guild using that terminology to denote a slight variation of a production build. That being said, I am guessing that your GSR M-40 is a quality made, wonderful playing and sounding instrument. I’d love to hear more about it.

The M-40 Troubadour has a Sitka spruce top with African mahogany back and sides, ABS binding, a rosewood bridge and fingerboard, and a bone nut and saddle.

Yeah my one complaint about Oxnard ( besides limited models compared to overseas lineup ) is their lack of high end appointments. I know those appointments don't impact tone necessarily, but they make a statement. Granted my F-55 is not missing any bling but the D-20, D-40 standard, F-40 etc. all have very basic appointments. Almost too much satin IMO... If that even makes sense...

I agree with the lack of high-end appointments and the overuse of satin finish. The overseas lineup seems to be the focus now.

It would be nice to see the return of the F-30.

I'll see your F-30 and I will raise you a resurrection of the Arched back D-25 in both Hog and Sitka top! Hell they could call it a D-20 arched back if they wanted to. I want nitro gloss tops though. I know satin breaths better, but it kind of reminds me of those $150 recording king guitars.
They have early 70's flat back hog top covered in the current D-20 of course.

I totally dig that sunburst, and the finish.

I think the Oxnard GSRs lean more toward the sort of Westerly era D26s and Martin store exclusive models. It's more about different/unique than high end bling. I like both.

Plaid I see you have a few guits from the Godin family in your signature. I think their acoustic lines are a phenomenal bang for the buck. The best value made on North American soil IMO. I have owned the AMI parlor and (2) LaPatrie Etudes.. Almost pulled the trigger on several seagulls.. Just a great line up of instruments. My son was 2 and broke the headstock off of my first etude. I traded the AMI parlor plus $400 for my beloved D-30 back in 2013. Sorry for the veer.

ReevesRd, CME sold me my F-55 back in 2018. Good outfit and they own Reverb. I wished I'd thought of it.
My F-55 was a scratch and dent. Was yours?
Specs-wise how is an M-40 different than an M-20? Spruce vs. Hog?
