The action on my Orpheum Jumbo seems to be increasing, may be the Oasis is releasing to much moisture. Anyway, I would like to try a lower saddle and am wondering if there is a good source for a replacement saddle?

Lower is much easier than taller. Can't you just take some off the bottom of the current saddle to lower the action? Raising it up, you'd have to either shim or get a new, taller saddle. But lower is doable. File it down a bit?

That's what I intend to do but would prefer to have a backup saddle, in case I take off too much (ruined some in the past) or if it was too much humidity and the top shrinks again I can get it back to normal easily.

Oh, so.... keep the original saddle original, and adjust a new one for lower action? I got it.... makes sense. Never mind, LOL!! I can't remember previous recommends so I'll just wait for the troops to arrive with answers for you.... :encouragement:

The link to www.guitartsaddles.com is for Bob Colosi. I had him make a lower saddle for my D-55. You will probably need to send him your saddle and tell him how much lower you want it to be. Many guitars he has already gotten the specs for and can make a new saddle on request. With your Orpheum, he'll want to measure it. Like my D-55. He turns them around pretty quick. He does bridge pins and nuts too.

Hey Merlin, That is the Fender part number for the exact replacement compensated bone saddle that your Orpheums came from the factory with, both your jumbo and 000 12 fret 12 string. It is already the proper radius for the fretboard, Properly compensated for the "B" string, and comes from the factory at full height. All you should have to do is sand the flat bottom for the overall height you want. Just match it up with your original saddle and use that for your guide. It is always wise to keep your original like you said so you can go back to it at any time. Best of luck!

Another vote for Bob Colosi-he does great work. He can do the saddle in a few different materials depending on your preferences. He will probably want you to send the original to him so he can copy it. It will still likely need a bit of fitting/sanding for optimal effect by your luthier when you get it back.
I had him copy a Yairi saddle, and add a compensation for the G string, and it turned out beautifully. He did leave it a bit higher and wider than the old one, so that it would be able to be fit properly, and it worked out well.

I'd have no reservations going with him. He also copied an end pin for me, and has done saddles/nuts for other guitars for me too.
