I wanted the same for D-35 and my soon to be D-50. After a lot of looking on CL and FeeBay I gave up. With the shipping fees and poor condition items, it just didn't make sense to spend money on an inferior, used case just to have a silk-screened gold Guild Logo on the cover. Guild didn't make the case anyway, TKL made it.

What I did do however was find a phenomenal case for $135.00. Arched top, 6 latches, 20mm padding, emerald crushed velvet interior, and a fitted hygrometer. You be the judge.

To me, a "good case" (meaning decent shape and sufficient protection) is more important than "original case" (which wouldn't really be original in your case, since it didn't come with the guitar in question). But, to give you an idea of what to look out for, I have owned/seen a couple of "Guild" cases from the late '70s early '80s...

Over the years, I have owned a couple (four I think) archtop dread cases from that period with the gold script "Guild" logo that had rather spartan purple felt interiors. Very sturdy, but not a lot of padding inside... I made do by padding with T-shirts.

My '76 D-50 came to me with its "original" first owner case: an un-branded (meaning no Guild logo) arch-topped 5-latch dread case with (rather bright) blue plush interior. I just recently found and bought another exactly like it (but a bit poorer cosmetic condition) as a "70-80s Guild case" on ebay (for my D-46). With shipping, it cost ~$100.

There have been several "Guild" cases on eBay recently that seem to be leftovers/seconds from the Tacoma factory. I got one for ~$70 plus shippin... a TKL archtop dread case with a brass oval "Guild" plaque near the handle. Quality is pretty good, and it was a good fit for my dreads. I think it only has 3 latches plus a hasp, tho'.

My favorite case is a near-mint (when I found it) top-of-the-line TKL with double neck support and crushed velvet interior that fits my dreads like a glove... which I bought used at a local shop for $65!

Good hunting!

I have 2 guitars that are 30 years old.
The cases for these guitars are not in great shape. I have replaced one of them and the other one will get replaced sometime in the near future.

Without wanting offending anyone, I have to ask,
why does it mater if a case in original or not?
To me the case is for protecting the guitar and not a part of it.

I just don't see the need for a case to be the same age as the guitar.

An entirely understandable viewpoint. But since you asked, there may be some out there, like me, who value the case that came with the guitar as actually being "part of the guitar". For example, Guild actually included the case in the price of the guitar for several models for a while The model descriptions would specify what case they were provided with at the list price. That was the "case" with all 3 of mine. Just for the insight. 8)

I think the biggest issue with the original case is the assumption that the case will fit the guitar properly. You don't want the guitar banging around inside the case. An aftermarket case may fit the guitar perfectly, but also may not due to their more universal sizing to cover a large range of products. I think the assumption is that the guitar manufacturer had the cases made with their specific dimensions to fit their guitars. That may or may not be true.

I wish I had an "original" case for my Guild D65S. But I don't. I wish I had a really, REALLY good case for my Guild D65S.... but I don't. I have a really, REALLY good, ORIGINAL case for my Washburn EA-20 ..... but who cares? Life is so unfair!!!

It's a collector thing.

And I love flummoxing the collectors with my situation. I bought my '67 SF I in '77 used and bought a brand new case for it from Guild. For all practical purposes my case that was new in 1977 is (so far believed to be) indistinguishable from a case that would have been sold with the bass in 1967. So the only people who know it isn't the "original" HSC are those who read my posts on LTG.

That said, there are a few unusual instruments where the best fit will come with the original case. I suspect I would have to get a custom case for my B-50 if I didn't have the OHSC since no one is making anything that big these days.

The seller's description said "the arched back and sides are mahogany and the top is vintage toned AAA sitka spruce. The fretboard and bridge are rosewood and the neck is mahogany.
