I'd say that's a pretty fair deal considering the originality of the parts. It appears as though nothing has been modified, the case notwithstanding. I would keep a close eye on that crack/scratch. I doubt you'll notice much movement, but I'd hate to see it progress. I think it could have gone higher if I had bid on it like I considered. In retrospect, I'm glad I didn't as it seems you would have a better application (that and I'd rather have an M-80CS). Looking forward to your impressions.

I was keeping an eye on that one, too. I'm not much of an electric player, but I think the body style is very cool, and I like black. Let us know what you think. If it works for you and turns out to be all you wanted, it will give me a little more confidence in my own asesssment of 'lectrics. Congratulations!

speaking of original parts, what type of pickups came with this guitar?

i don't think it's a scratch.. it's too straight of a line. I'd say it's just a crack in the finish.. is there a way of repairing this so it doesn't get worse, or would it require an entirely new paint job?

thanks,

adam79,

I would say you did pretty good on the M80. I like these guitars but they are a bit heavy. Interestingly there are two styles. The standard style is like yours. The body is mahogany and the carved top is maple. As yours is painted it may be difficult to notice the maple cap. Mine is a transparent red color. Very pretty up close. These guitars tend to look a little plain because of the black XR7 PUPs. Take your time setting it up. You can get the action of these guitars very low.

On thing you will notice is that the guitar has all of its edges rounded and smooth which makes it very comfortable to play and hold. Guild also made a bound version of this guitar. They tend to have very pretty maple caps but the edge and binding are not rounded like the standard model so are a little less comfortable to handle. In any case these are highly underrated guitars. You will be very pleased with the action of the 24 fret neck and the quality of the instrument.

It is really misleading to call this a M80. This guitar is totally different from the 1970s M80. It would have been more appropriate for Guild to call these S80's. I often describe these as solid body guitars in the shape of a Starfire 4. The bound model tends to look a lot like a solid Starfire.

Also, the "crack" from the middle of the bridge to the bottom front edge of the body isn't a crack. It is the seam of the maple cap. I can see it in my guitar. It is very thin and too thin to try and repair. You will not be able to feel it but you can see it. It isn't going anywhere. This seems to be common on this model Guild.

Hardshell Case for '81 M-80

I just got the guitar in the mail and I like it alot; it was worth the $600. In the description of the auction it said that the guitar came with it's original hardshell case, but the case turned out to be for an Epiphone with a larger body. Is there a third party company that makes a case that would fit the M-80?
