Think it is originally designed for classical guitar players.

Yes it is. Classic Willie!

I don't play standing but when I do, the guitar feels more centered, balanced and easier to fret with the strap attached behind the nut. It's a personal preference.

Ha! It's exactly the opposite for me - "personal preference" is exactly right...

Mine have always been at the heel plate so I am most comfortable with that.

Much easier to get on nd off, with strap tied at the nut. Does feel a bit strange at first. But you can get used to it.

This could be a separate thread! I always undo the strap and leave it off of the guitar. Then put it over my shoulder and attach the guitar when I want to play. I play standing almost always, and after a broken collarbone, i got it this habit and liked it.

I don't keep a strap on a guitar in a case. That is mostly because I have a favorite strap and it is easier to "leave it out" than go through several cases when I can't remember when I used it last.

I have a fear of some straps stressing the instrument if the case is already snug but that is a fear with no anecdotes or experience behind it. If I don't leave the strap in the case then I don't have to worry about whether that fear is justified, or not. I do have friends with metal on their strap that did damage the finish but the solution could be a strap without metal.

I drape the strap over my shoulder then attach the instrument, usually at the neck end first. If the instrument has StrapLocs then I put them on last.

Yes! EXCEPT - I put the bottom of the strap on first!

EDIT **** I just saw this post again - I put the neck on first as you do, frono, not sure what I was thinking in this post! ****

I was always mainly an electric player. Acoustic on stage for me, didn't even come in to play till around 1990. And even then acoustic on stage was limited. So when it came to putting it on, and taking it off. Time was of the essence. Being that I was my own Roadie/Guitar Tech.

I did some research as to which location seems to work best (some say heel plate, some say the side of the heel, some say the side if the guitar itself), got out my drill and just installed it. I don’t care, it’s my guitar that ain’t going anywhere and I always thought the headstock tie strap was always in the way. Do what’s best for you.

The location's varied over the years. ;)
BTW, Welcome aboard California!
Thank you Adorshki!

and here is photo of installation on my 2019 F-55 based on instructions from Guild and which looks to match Antney’s installation pretty closely. Maybe slightly more off to the side? The only thing that bugs my slightly is you can see it from the front of the guitar, however more importantly it feels right when I am playing the guitar
